Bruce Babcock is the director of the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development and professor of economics at Iowa State University. A native of Southern California, he received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in agricultural economics at the University of California at Davis in 1980 and 1981, respectively, and his Ph.D. in agricultural and resource economics at the University of California at Berkeley in 1987. Before coming to Iowa State University as an assistant professor of economics in 1990, Babcock was an assistant professor and extension specialist at North Carolina State University. He has conducted extensive research in the areas of agricultural production economics and agricultural policy. His current research focuses on policy issues related to understanding farmer adoption of transgenic crops and precision agriculture.
