Dr. Dennis Ojima is currently a Senior Research Scientist at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory at the Colorado State University. He received his PhD in 1987 at CSU and worked for three years (1988 through 1990) with the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme in Stockholm, Sweden. His current research efforts deal with ecosystem dynamics and ecosystem modeling relative to changes in land management, climate change, and atmospheric chemistry changes. He has conducted field research extensively in the US; in particular Colorado, Florida, Kansas, and South Dakota; and has conducted field research in China and Mongolia. Dr. Ojima has been a recognized expert in global change impacts to semiarid and arid ecosystems and has participated in workshops sponsored by the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program, the United Nations Environmental Programme, and Academies of China and Mongolia. He has participated in efforts to develop mitigation strategies for developing countries and worked with the scientists at the Lawerence Berkeley Laboratories in the Countries Studies Programme. He has also worked in Senegal, China, Mongolia and Kazakistan on developing strategies for carbon sequestration. Currently he is involved in studies of global change impacts on terrestrial ecosystems in the US and around the world using an ecosystem model (CENTURY); research efforts to link economic analysis with terrestrial ecosystem dynamics; chairing the steering committee to facilitate research efforts on land use and land cover changes in temperate East Asia; and co-chairing the Land Science Planning effort for the IGBP Phase II.
