Other Professional Activities:

Dr. Cole served as a member of the SCOPE Scientific Advisory Committee on Biogeochemical Cycles and as Chairman of the SCOPE International Phosphorus Project. He organized international workshops on Phosphorus Cycling in Poland (1988), Asia and Oceania (1989), South and Central America (1989), Africa (1991), and a final international synthesis workshop on phosphorus cycling in Budapest in 1993.

He was a member of Working Group II of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Second Assessment Report and the convening lead author of Chapter 23 “Agricultural Options for Mitigation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions” in Climate Change 1995 -- Impacts, Adaptations and Mitigation of Climate Change
